The Secret to Transformation

There is a secret, that is not really a secret at all:
There is nothing that you can do to be closer to God / Divine Consciousness.
It is living within you,
and Its power of transformation
is limitless…

…The simplicity of this is shrouded by our mind that tells us all things worth doing are hard to achieve. In realty, it is only this kind of thinking that keeps us from living fully connected to what is already there. Wake to this Presence and come to realize it has always been there; it is us who has kept It at arm’s distance. Then resist regret and instead fall instantly into Love.  To live in this Presence, fully allowing it to embrace us
and flow through us, is to live in a Love that then begins to change us in every way possible. This state of receiving and bathing daily, moment to moment, in
God’s/Divine Love is the key to our health and all forms of prosperity. Just as with Divine Love, health and prosperity are also already there, waiting for us to receive
them…let the transformation begin and continue to manifest in you and in your life in every way.

How do you know that you are truly receiving the power and presence of the life giving and transformative Love within you?

When it spills over from within you to all around you, without differentiation of where or whom it goes to, and suddenly forgiveness and love are given easily to those people and events your mind tried to tell you were too hard to forgive and love before. Be free of holding on to hurt, and know without any doubt that you are loved; once you have felt it you will choose to return there every moment that you begin to forget. Once you receive Love and forgiveness, then you are able to give it freely, and the secret is not a secret any longer, it is a way of life.

Why Do Qigong?

Qigong is a method. When we do Qigong or meditate, our aim is to clear the clutter. To clear anything that shrouds our ability to see clearly; anything that reinforces the
false perception of separation from Divinity and the belief that all we own is our past hurt. As these thoughts and internally held misconceptions are cleared in a space of
stillness that Qigong provides, where there is no barrier to seeing this Love. Then we can move beyond the state of trying to achieve something. “Trying” means you are not. Stop trying, and Be. You are Love, you are Health, you are prosperity.
When you do Qigong, you aim with your intention to reach a place of receiving that which is already there, and in the flow of movement and breath, you clear the emotions and thoughts that arise and must be processed and released as part of your healing. By unshrouding Divine Love and setting your intention to opening to it, you allow it to permeate every part of you, achieving a state of true acceptance, relaxation, and transformation, and…

You begin to change, for you are allowing the physical and emotional parts of you to merge fully with the Spiritual part that is you and is already all of these things
(Love, Health) by It’s very nature.

One of the Greats

Dr. Steven Arnold Juenke
Feb 15, 1944 – July 17, 2018

A graduate of the Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine and of the Indian Institute of Alternative Medicine. Honorary Board Member of the Calcutta Institute. Dr. Juenke holds a Doctor of Medicine in Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (M.D. Ac.).

“Enjoy your Presence first each day…
challenge yourself in all things…
Enjoy the life that has been given to you!”

Dr. Juenke worked to advance the knowledge and legitimacy of acupuncture, herbal medicine, and energetic medicine in the United States…

Dr. Juenke opened his own Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine clinic in Denver, Colorado. With his successful patient care, Dr. Juenke founded the Colorado Healing Centers and opened 3 additional clinics in Colorado located in Buena Vista, Leadville, and Salida.  Dr. Juenke specialized in most chronic disease conditions and worked professionally alongside several Western medical (M.D.) doctors offering patients alternatives to synthetic drugs and surgery. He also successfully treated conditions such as Macular Degeneration, Retinal Edema, and Type 2 Diabetes by naturally maintaining glucose levels.
For seven years he was the Chief Administrator/Dean and later the Clinical Director of the Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine where he assisted in getting the school through the rigorous accreditation process and advocated for the teaching and personal practice careers of many skilled Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine doctors from China.

After over a decade in practice in Colorado, Dr. Juenke relocated to Fairbanks, Alaska where he founded Jade Mountain Clinic. He was the recipient of the Gold Medal Award for providing medical treatment to the trappers and mushers in the interior of Alaska during the harsh Winters and was a Veterans Administration provider, assisting many local veterans in their medical needs.

Through all of his years as a doctor, Dr. Juenke put time and care into each of his patients, elevating standard practices/protocols through countless hours of research and guiding his patients through a comprehensive yet simply executed approach to whole body medicine.

“When will you see that your thinking does not know,
 your doing has no person,
and your presence in this life through evaluation does not exist?
Even the form of all things is continually moving into emptiness.
Your struggles in the external world are only your mind,
and the story you tell yourself in an illusion.
Only silence will tell you,
and allow you to See.”

“Don’t move ahead of the light you have this moment,
or you will end up in the shadows.”

Dr. Juenke received his Chinese name, Master Li Shan, and was ordained as a priest (22nd Generation Dragon Gate Sect and 67th Generation Orthodox Unity School). Above he is shown in his ordination garments, with one of his own creations of art behind him entitled “Moon Gate” (a combination of layered photography and poetry).

Dr. Juenke had an innate ability to use energy and intention for healing and integrated that into all that he did for his patients through the application of Acupuncture. He maintained close connections and communication with influential members of the Medical Qigong community and Spiritual Daoism community. Dr. Juenke spent most of his life in the study of religions, received a Doctorate in Theology and then went on to spend over 18 years of self-study in Eastern religions and Daoist philosophy.

For him, the common threads of truth in the spiritual teachings of religions, particularly Daoism, were a source of self-betterment. They provided self-awareness and a method of connecting more deeply to one’s own spiritual nature so to integrate that more fully with their human nature. This personal, internal journey combined with life’s struggles and triumphs, propelled him in his success of helping others and guiding them to find their own path to spiritual and physical integration and health.

Janet was Dr. Juenke’s wife and his greatest supporter, a constant presence, and a balance to all of his pursuits, internal and external. She worked alongside him both at the Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine and then in every one of Dr. Juenke’s private practices, helping to run them and working as a massage therapist to further patient care. Janet is still practicing at Jade Mountain Clinic.

“Dying is not the kind of death you think,
but rather seeing that this was an unreal part of your Immortal Self. To awake to that reality while here is enlightenment.”

All quotes by Dr. Juenke, written to his daughter.
We wanted to take a moment share just a fraction of the story of the man we knew and hope that his life and words help to inspire many things for you as they did for us. Here’s to Dr. Steven Juenke, Dad, One of the Greats…

Making Meditation a Healthy Habit

Make habits conscious. We have so many, why not have some on purpose and with purpose?
Let your mind and your body exist in the same time:
this moment.

Then hold that space either in focused intention or in stillness. This is the simple practice of meditation and amazing things will happen…
In doing the simple act of making action purposeful, we have the necessary tool of awareness which makes all things possible, including stopping bad habits. Yet beyond stopping bad habits, replace them with others that you know are positive for you.One example is meditation, which leads to a myriad of potential positive outcomes, including the necessary release from stress and the resulting phenomenal physical and emotional level healing.

Read this article for some fascinating information on the potential of meditation done as a daily habit.

Though the exact time parameters this article gives of 7 years regarding the long-lasting nature of the healing benefits of meditation are not well documented in it, the idea behind it is still very sound and is the foundation principle of all Medical Qigong practices: where your mind goes, your energy follows…and manifests on the physical. The positive impact that occurs from meditation goes well beyond just the current moment you are meditating, and the more positive thought or time spent by us in a state of stillness/non-stress, the better and longer the healing results. Through meditation, one can either focus their dozens of random thoughts down to one thought or intention, or they can release their mind entirely from all thought, allowing their energy to reconsolidate and be used by the body. Even if we don’t know exactly what our body needs, the body has its own innate wisdom for healing itself when it is simply given the space or internal environment it needs for that healing to occur. Instead of using your energy for worry or frustration or any other thought which “exists” in the past or the future, give that energy back to your body for it to use for you to heal or stay healthy. Let your mind and your body exist in the same time: this moment, then hold that space either in focused intention or in stillness. This is the simple practice of meditation and amazing things will happen. Do this as a habit, and not just as an occasional practice, even if it is for only 10-15 minutes a day, and its potential only increases.

“New Insights Into How the Mind Influences the Body”

Thousands of Years of Theory…

Medical Qigong, the mother of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and all its branches, deeply understands the effects of stress on the body. For over 5000 years it has developed and refined methods of not only combating the physical manifestations of stress but also preventing the negative effects of common self-inflicted mental stress. Medical Qigong teaches dynamic movements and meditations that integrate posture, breath, and mental focus. These mind-body practices provide one with the essential awareness and tools for enhancing their ability to heal themselves and prevent illness.

The “fight or flight” response is often thought of as an involuntary response to our external environment, sending us into an action for the purposes of self-preservation. However, TCM understands that this response, when left in an unconscious state, can become a habitually chronic behavior that has a very real and tremendously detrimental effect on our health. This chronic state extends from the event itself and into our mental state afterward. Following a stressful event, one will often mentally recreate the moment innumerable times, causing far greater levels of emotional and physical stress than even the original event itself did.

…Confirmed by Modern Western Science

A study conducted in 2016 by the University of Pittsburgh identified significant neural connections between the cerebral cortex and the adrenal medulla. Its findings provided more scientific evidence of “…how stress, depression and other mental states can alter organ function, and show that there is a real anatomical basis for psychosomatic illness.”

This study also proved that people have physical level responses from simply thinking about a stressful event. Therefore, even in the absence of an immediate external environmental event, through mental activity alone one can trigger their body into a “fight or flight” response. It is shown in these findings that in an unconscious and undisciplined state, the mind has the ability to create high levels of day to day stress.

Qigong provides people with methods of shifting their responses to the conscious level, mitigating the effects of unavoidable stress, and taking control of daily mental habits that impact health.

DC Metro Qigong – Warm Winter Greetings

As we take a full turn into the winter season, remember there are many preventative actions you can take to stay healthy.

Here are a couple tips:

Protecting Yourself from Cold Weather Invasions

Cover the back of your neck when going outside, even for short durations. Regardless of whether you feel cold while you are outside, this time of year always strive to protect your neck from external environmental conditions.
Also, warm the face after returning indoors and consider taking a hot shower before bed to help remove any subtle cold pathogens remaining on the face and body.
There are acupuncture points located on the back of your neck that when exposed to wind can cause what TCM calls a wind invasion, resulting in all the same to similar symptoms of a viral cold (e.g. muscle aches, sore throat, chills), only without a virus.
Simple Homemade Ginger Tea

It may be the most overlooked solution, however, one way to combat the winter cold is through the stomach.

In the summer, ginger root is used to promote healthy spleen and stomach function. In the winter, ginger root can also be used to help release the exterior, a TCM term used to describe the removal of environmental factors (pathogens) such as wind and cold from the surface of the skin. This prevents the pathogens from remaining on the skin and eventually penetrating into deeper tissue levels and causing greater illness.

1) Ginger root can be sliced thinly and simmered for about 20 min in a covered pot of water to extract it.

2) Here is a 5-10 min method for making ginger tea:

Grate 1-2 tablespoons of ginger root and put in the bottom of a large drinking mug.
Pour about 16oz of boiling water directly over it.
Cover and let steep for 3-5 minutes.
Strain. (Optional: save the ginger and repeat the steeping process one more time with it. Combine both steepings).
Dilute to drink: for 4 ounces of ginger tea, pour 2 ounces of the steeped and strained ginger water into a cup and dilute with 2 ounces of plain hot water. For 8oz of ginger tea, double these amounts.
Add a little raw honey if desired.
Drink 4-8oz in the morning or evening before bed, daily.

Our December Newsletter Preview

Passion and fulfillment are all too often overshadowed by stress. This can be even more so during the holiday season and some end up dreading the rut holidays have become, making them feel more drawn down than reinvigorated.

Learning to restore balance to your health is rooted in first learning that each moment in your life, and what you choose to do with it, is significant. Each moment is either compounding your stress levels and therefore health imbalances, or it is an opportunity for allowing your body to heal. What decides this is more your choice than you may realize and this article is all about regaining a perspective that empowers you to heal.

For nearly all of our clients and students over the years, there are two primary reasons for holiday stress: uncomfortable family circumstances and the sense of too little time for all of the additional demands. This month we will bring to light several family dynamics and their impact on us, discussing important healing methods for regaining True Control and liberation from the perception of the “rut” and establishing vital perceptions necessary for whole body health.

***December’s Newsletter will also include additional methods of whole body healing in daily moments with simple to learn yet highly effective tools provided by Medical Qigong, suggested reading, and more.***
